MARSHA WALTER

"Artist of Light
Hello, my name is Marsha Walter, “Artist of Light”!

My personal journey in creating art began as a child where I learned to draw with pastels.  I loved the way I could blend colors together.  During art appreciation in college, I was intrigued by the artist, Renoir and the way he was able to capture the spirit of life in his work

When I first saw his paintings, I made up my mind to strive to capture the spirit of life in my work as well.  I fell in love with oil painting when as a young adult I took lessons learning how to manipulate oil on canvas to achieve a desired result.  I loved how I could use color and subject matter to evoke feeling in my art.

I chased the beauty and majesty of the world we live in, trying to capture it in my art.  I worked diligently to bring more light into my art and was inspired by the work of Thomas Kincade, “Painter of Light.”  While pursuing my love of art, I worked full time as a Registered Nurse in ICU while raising a family with my husband.  However, even the fast pace of life could not keep me away from finding the time to paint and open the Golden Chalice Art Company where  I sold cards printed from the paintings I had done through the years.

For over a decade I volunteered through my church to help those who were wounded or in crisis.  Out of my desire to facilitate healing for not only the physical body, but the spirit as well, I began to focus upon portraying images that could speak to the heart.  Born out of an understanding from the care I had given through work and volunteering, I was inspired to begin creating on canvas those sometimes unshared feelings.  It is during the quiet time of the early morning hours that I receive inspiration for what I create on canvas.

Inspiration

What Inspires me, is the beauty all around me.  Everywhere I look I see the miracle and beauty of life.

If I can translate that on canvas then I feel I am sharing a message of hope for the future.

Techniques

When I see or think of something that inspires me, the techniques I use are to photograph it and then use it as a guide to compose a painting.

I may rearrange the composition, the color, add or take away what is in the photo or the inspiration I received; all to tell a story and evoke an emotion or a relationship with what is portrayed in my painting.

Career Highlights

Highlights of my career would be the joy I feel when I sit down to paint something marvelous that I have just seen or sensed in the world around me, as well as the opportunity to share it with others.

Selling cards I had printed from my art with inspirational messages through my Golden Chalice Art Company years ago was also a rewarding experience.
